Every piece in our collection starts with a vision — and for the Contemporary Booth, we wanted to create something that felt clean, fresh, and modern, with just the right amount of design edge. A standalone audio guestbook booth that would complement any venue, from industrial-chic to laid-back garden marquees. It had to be bold, and totally unique.
From Concept to CNC Cut
This one started in Canva. It might not be the first place you’d expect to begin a product design, but it let us quickly play with shapes, scale, and visualise colour in a really accessible way. Once we were happy with the look, we translated the design into vCarve Pro and set up our CNC files.
Then came the satisfying part — the CNC cut. Watching our curves and shapes come to life from flat sheets of MDF never gets old.
Making Flexible MDF (Yes, We Made It Harder for Ourselves)
We knew the booth needed a clean, continuous curve — and while there are easier ways to achieve that, we decided to make our own flexible MDF. Standard sheets wouldn’t cut it (literally), so we got to work with a plunge saw.
By making multiple, evenly spaced parallel cuts into the back of the MDF — careful not to cut all the way through — we created flexibility in what is usually a rigid material. This process turned a flat panel into something we could bend smoothly around the curved form we had previously cut on the CNC machine.
It’s a technique that requires precision and a steady hand, but it gave us exactly the finish we were after — strong, seamless, and perfectly shaped to the frame.
Assembly, Paint & The Red Dilemma
Once the body was formed and the internal structure was secure, we moved onto paint. We knew we wanted it red — bold and bright. But getting good coverage with red paint can be a nightmare.
Top tip: Never use white undercoat under red. It’ll take you layer after layer to get any depth. Use a grey primer instead — it neutralises the surface and gives your red a solid, vibrant base. A game-changer we learned the hard way.
The Final Piece
The finished Contemporary Booth is now a standout option in our audio guestbook range. It’s compact, eye-catching, and full of character. Whether it’s nestled in a stylish corner of a modern wedding or standing proud in a gallery-style venue, it just works — and it’s quickly become one of our favourite builds.
